Please Call us and we can quickly survey the site concerned. A site visit can decide the best course of action to remove and eradicate the knot weed. A competitive quote or estimate will be given and any advice required. We will help to avoid the invasive weed spreading. Chemical control may be required.
We at ESL are very aware of the problems that Japanese Knotweed can cause, including the damage it can cause to buildings, paths, roads, and services. It can even grow through concrete floors. We have access to the professional chemicals, application technology, and required licences to use them commercially, including applications in sensitive environments such as the “LERAP” zone.

The main reason's for this plant being considered a serious problem is its ability to regenerate, spread, choke out native species, and to lay dormant for up to 50 years in the soil. It poses many problems while dormant, as a disturbance to the soil can cause it to start growing, and once started it will grow right through a concrete floor. A single fragment from the Rhizome the size of your finger nail can germinate and cause a new crop to grow, infesting an area with a non-native species that can grow up to 40 mm, (1 3/4 inches approx,), in a single day, or 300 mm,(a foot.), in a single week. The crown is so robust that burning on a bonfire is not likely to kill it, the charred remains can often still regenerate.
With no diseases, pests, or grazing animals native to this part of Europe the problem is that if you get a large area of
Japanese Knotweed it forms a barrier that the native flora and fauna find very difficult, if not impossible to get passed.
To allow, or cause, Japanese Knotweed to spread into the environment is a prosecutable offence under the “Protection Of The Environment Act”, and we therefore recommend killing any outcrop chemically. Due to the robust nature of this species domestic weed killers from garden centres are rarely strong enough to kill the rhizomes, and may in fact leave you at risk of spreading the problem without realizing.
